\nThe International Council on Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety (ICADTS) is pleased to join with FORTOX in welcoming you to Taking Action to Decrease Road Fatalities and Injuries.
\nAs President of ICADTS, I am honored to join FORTOX and the other organizations who are involved in this international conference.<\/p>\n

ICADTS is an independent non-profit body whose only goal is to reduce mortality and morbidity brought about by misuse of alcohol and drugs by operators of vehicles in all modes of transport. To accomplish this goal, the Council sponsors international and regional conferences to collect, disseminate and share essential information among professionals in the fields of law, medicine, public health, economics, law enforcement, public information and education, human factors and public policy. ICADTS also administers a number of Expert Working Groups designed to facilitate discussion and advance science and practice on a range of topics.<\/p>\n

The goal in this conference is to work towards Vision Zero through sharing information among professionals in many aspects of traffic safety. We look forward expanding our network of friends and co-workers and want to benefit from fresh ideas and new energy.<\/p>\n

While the alcohol, drugs and traffic safety field has seen much progress, so much still needs to be done if we are to approach Vision Zero. This conference will help us all work towards that goal.<\/p>\n

It is a great pleasure to invite you to take part in the FORTOX 2017 Conference<\/p>\n

TAKING ACTION TO DECREASE ROAD FATALITIES AND INJURIES\u00a0 <\/strong>
\n 
\nco-organised with the International Council on Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety (ICADTS) in beautiful Bled, Slovenia, from 28-30 May 2017.<\/p>\n

The invitation to the conference is addressed to both institutions and individuals: from professionals in the fields of law, law enforcement, toxicology, pharmacy, medicine, psychology, traffic safety, public health and administration, to all who monitor developments in road safety and want it to improve.<\/p>\n

2016 was the third consecutive year of poor road safety for many countries in the European Union and certain other countries around the world. A third of traffic fatalities are alcohol related. In order to reach the EU and United Nations strategic target of halving the number of road deaths from 2010 to 2020<\/a>, additional efforts are required.<\/p>\n

The main topics of the conference are:<\/p>\n

• Behavioural toxicology (alcohol, cannabis, medicinal drugs, other drugs, includes legal issues)<\/li>\n
• Interventions to reduce impaired driving and traffic injuries<\/li>\n
• Road user behaviour (distraction, speed, fatigue, drowsy driving)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

   <\/p>\n

  We will be hosting world-renowned speakers and experts in their respective fields.<\/p>\n

  You are invited to prepare your contribution, to share your knowledge and discuss any issues you feel are important.<\/p>\n

  The conference represents an excellent opportunity to disseminate knowledge, experience and good practice, and to draw some conclusions for further work.
